However, if I use Spotify directly in the Sonos app there is no problem. What I tried so far: reinstalling Spotify and Sonos app, update Sonos firmware, update router firmware, log out and in on both sonos and spotify, re-register music service in Sonos, disable and enabling control from Sonos.
You've probably done this already, but I'm going to point it out that you must change your account details on the Spotify website before you change it within your Sonos system. Once you have made your necessary changes or added your new account details on the Spotify website, you can move to making those changes in Sonos.
The device used to run the Sonos app likely has a Spotify account associated with it. This is the account which will be added when adding Spotify to the Sonos app. You can try associating your controller with a different Spotify account first, or use a different controller to add Spotify to your Sonos app.

Sonos speakers are one of the best ways to fill your home with music. They’re entirely wireless and controllable from your computer, tablet, or smartphone. Sonos speakers also sync with dozens of music streaming services, including Spotify, Amazon Music, and Apple Music.

However, there’s one area where Sonos falls short: there’s no way to listen to your computer’s audio output with it.

It might not sound like a big deal, but it is. If you’re an audiophile, you probably use a dedicated music manager like MusicBee or MediaMonkey to keep your tunes organized.

Specialist apps such as these include a vast number of features, tags, metadata fields, and everything else that music fanatics love. In contrast, the Sonos app is bare-bones. You can see the artist, song, album, and artwork—but not much else.

How to Stream Your PC’s Audio Output to Sonos

To play computer audio through Sonos, you’ll need to use a third-party app called Stream What You Hear (SWYH). But before we get into the setup instructions, allow us to list a few caveats:

You need to perform the entire process on a Windows computer. The SWYH app is not available on macOS or mobile operating systems.
The speaker’s audio output will lag behind your computer by a couple of seconds. As such, this method is only suitable for listening to music, not watching videos.
The SWYH app has not been updated since 2016. It still works perfectly, but the more time that passes, the more likely it is to break.

That said, let’s look at the process. To use your Sonos as a PC speaker, follow the step-by-step guide below.

Download and install Stream What You Hear.
Launch the app using the Start menu shortcut.
Right-click on the app’s icon in the system tray.
Go to Tools > HTTP Live Streaming.
Copy the on-screen URL.
Open the Sonos app.
Go to Manage > Add Radio Station.
Paste in the URL and give the link a name.
Click OK.

To use your new “radio” station, go to Radio > My Radio Stations. Make sure your computer is playing audio before launching the station, or it will fail to connect.

(Pocket-lint) - Sonos has released the over-the-air software update that allows users to play music directly from the Spotify app, rather than just through the Sonos app.

Until now, Sonos users were required to sign into their Spotify Premium account via the Sonos app in order to search for songs, albums or their Spotify playlists and play them through their Sonos speakers.

The new update means that while Sonos users can still use the Sonos app, they will also be able to use the Spotify app itself to stream music to any or all of their Sonos speakers.

Here's how to control Sonos through Spotify.

Setting up Sonos and Spotify

To enable your Sonos speakers to appear on the Spotify app, you'll need to follow the instructions below.

Open the Sonos app
Click on the three lines in the top left of the app, which is the main menu
Update your Sonos system to the latest software
You'll be prompted to 'Set up Sonos Account'
Type in the full email address associated with your Sonos account (it gives you a hint)
Open the email and set a new password
Sign into your Sonos Account in the Sonos app when prompted
Go back into the main menu within the Sonos app
Click on Control Sonos from Spotify and turn it on
Open the Spotify app and you'll see your Sonos speakers listed in the Devices Available tab. If they aren't individually listed, it might be because they are grouped.

To play a song, album or playlist on one of your Sonos speakers through Spotify, follow the instructions below.

Open the Spotify app
Open the song, playlist or album you want to play
Tap on Devices Available at the bottom of the screen
Tap on the Sonos speaker you want to play the song, album or playlist on

You won't be able to group Sonos speakers through the Spotify app directly as this requires intervention from the Sonos app. The option is there if you click on the three dots next to each Sonos speaker in the Devices Available list though, it just takes you to the Sonos app.

Once you've grouped the speakers you want to group within the Sonos app and pressed 'Done', you'll be transferred back to the Spotify app automatically. From here, you'll then be able to control the overall volume of the group of speakers, but not the individual speakers within the group.

To ungroup speakers, the same instructions apply and again, you'll be automatically transferred between the Sonos app and the Spotify app.
